Call of Cthulhu (Mortals)

“The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the deadly light into the peace and safety of a new dark age.” ― H.P. Lovecraft, The Call of Cthulhu

What is Call of Cthulhu?

CoC is based on the works of a horror writer Howard Phillips Lovecraft. It is a game about normal people like you and me who gets swept up in the esoteric, strange and unfathomable truths. The characters the play in CoC typically start out knowing nothing (or very little) about what is referred to as 'The Mythos'. It would take ages to explain everything on just one page, the fictional universe is massive and always expanding through Chaosium's publishings. I recommend you begin by looking through the following pages:

If you are still confused but still would like to play, a simple Mortal (normal person) will be enough to get you started.
